Āyāt al-Shifāʾ – The Healing Verses of the Qur’an and Their Benefits

The Qur’an is not only a book of guidance but also a source of healing and mercy. Allah ﷻ mentions in several places that His words bring shifāʾ — cure, relief, and comfort — for those who believe. Scholars have identified six verses in particular, known as Āyāt al-Shifāʾ (The Verses of Healing), which directly mention healing.

Believers often recite these verses with faith and sincerity, seeking Allah’s help for physical ailments, emotional distress, and spiritual purification.

The Six Āyāt al-Shifāʾ

1. Surah al-Tawbah (9:14)

“…and Allah will heal the breasts of a believing people.”
This verse highlights that true healing is linked with the strengthening of faith and victory over despair.

2. Surah Yunus (10:57)

“…a healing for what is in the hearts, and guidance and mercy for the believers.”
The Qur’an heals the diseases of doubt, pride, and spiritual emptiness.

3. Surah al-Nahl (16:69)

“…from their bellies comes a drink of varying colors, in which there is healing for people.”
Referring to honey, this verse reminds us that Allah provides natural cures as signs for reflection.

4. Surah al-Isra (17:82)

“…We send down in the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy to the believers…”
The Qur’an itself is a divine cure, bringing peace and mercy to hearts.

5. Surah al-Shuʿarā (26:80)

“And when I am ill, it is He who cures me.”
A profound declaration of Tawḥīd — true healing is only from Allah.

6. Surah Fuṣṣilat (41:44)

“…for those who believe, it is guidance and a healing…”
Faith unlocks the healing power of the Qur’an, while disbelief veils it.
